Full Description:
AT&T announces the introduction of its third generation (3G) mobile broadband network in St. Augustine and the expansion of 3G in Jacksonville, opening the door to a new era of mobile services, devices and feature-rich audio and video content for more customers. The introduction of 3G coverage in St. Augustine with 36 cell sites adds coverage in parts of Flagler, St. Johns, and Putnam Counties, including Bunnell, Cresent Beach, Flagler Beach, Green Cove Springs, Palatka, Palm Coast, St. Augustine, and Vilano Beach. The addition of 32 3G cell sites in Jacksonville improves coverage in Duval and Nassau Counties; including Amelia Island, Fernandina Beach and Yulee, as well as providing coverage on Interstate 95 to the Georgia line.
The network extension is part of AT&T’s ongoing efforts to drive innovation and investment to deliver the benefits of smartphones and mobile broadband for customers. More smartphone customers have chosen AT&T over any other U.S. competitor, and AT&T is committed to driving continual enhancement of network capabilities to meet these customers’ ever-growing mobile broadband needs.
These new sites are in addition to the more than 115 3G cell sites that AT&T has added in north and central Florida since the beginning of the year. AT&T says that it continues to invest in its network and Florida communities so that its customers can have the best experience possible when using AT&T.
AT&T plans to invest between $17 billion and $18 billion this year in its wired and wireless networks. From 2006 to 2008, AT&T’s total capital investment in its wireline and wireless networks in Florida was more than $3 billion.
