On Sunday December 13, 2009 the Palm Coast Elks lodge #2709 held their annual “Hoop Shoot” free throw contest. The following girls and boys were the first place winners in their age groups:

Age Group 8-9

Prosperity Wright from Bunnell Elementary School

Blake Halvorsen from Wadsworth Elementary School

Age Group 10-11

Krista Montigo from Wadsworth Elementary School

Keifer Christian from Wadsworth Elementary School

Age Group 12-13

Joanette Gonzalez from Indian Trails Elementary School

Tyler Fobian from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic School

Congratulations to all our winners and participants.

The Elks “Hoop Shoot” Free Throw Contest is the largest and most visible of the many youth activities sponsored by Elks Lodges. More than three million boys and girls, ages 8-13, will participate this year. The Elks “Hoop Shoot” highlights the Elks commitment to America's youth. From the millions of youngsters who participate and advance through local, district, state and regional competition, six national champions are named — one boy and one girl in each of three categories: ages 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13.

The first place winners from this weeks contest will move onto the district completion in Deland in January.  The winners from that competition will move on to the Florida State completion and should they win there, then onto the National championship.

As in the earlier contests the winners of the Nationals will each receive a trophy.  In addition the winners of the Nationals will have their names inscribed on a plaque at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts. Parents accompany contestants throughout the competition. The parents of finalists at the state, regional and national levels attend the competitions as guests of the Elks.
